Barry Smith conducted the St George's Singers in the first complete South African performance of the work in Cape Town some 44 years ago. Now once again he conducts a rare complete and authentic, small-scale Handelian type performance, the first since 2006. Performing together with the St George's Singers will be three of Cape Town's finest young singers, Lente Louw, Willem Bester, and Aubrey Lodewyk, accompanied by the popular Baroque group, Camerata Tinta Barocca (led by Quentin Crida). The countertenor soloist, Mark Donnelly, hails from Canada and earlier this year sang to critical acclaim in his Cape Town debut in Bach's St Matthew Passion.
Groote Kerk, Cape Town CBD, Adderley street.
Unreserved tickets at R100 and R80 for senior citizens and students available at Computicket and at the Groote Kerk door on the day of the performance.
A limited number of reserved seats at R120 with both good viewing of the performers and excellent sound may be booked in advance through Computicket or by contacting either Pierre van Wyngaard or Pierre Marais.

From Die Burger, 6 October 2008:
"The spring and summer concert series of Barry Smith and the St George's Singers began outstandingly on Friday evening"
"The Symphony no. 85 in B flat major (La Reine, otherwise The Queen), [...] conveyed Haydn's inspiration beautifully. Smith conducted the Camerata Tinta Barocca (with Quentin Crida as leader) with vitality and style"
"As always the St George's Singers impressed. The choir reacts outstandingly to Smith's clear directions, and the strong men's voices and clear sopranos are always a joy to listen to."
